Many people view Dover as a stop over while on their way to the continent, but in reality Dover and the sourrounding area offers a multitude of attractions and amusements to visitors. Why not extend your break for a day or two to take time to discover what the area has to offer. A few suggestions are offered below but for a full list please click here.

Dover Castle
Probably Englands most famous and best preserved castle, Dover castle offers a whole day out for all the family. Visitors are given full access to the castle keep and grounds and you can even visit one of the tallest remaining Roman structures in Europe - The Pharos lighthouse. From the top of the keep you have an unrivalled view of the whole town and across the channel to France. When you have finished exploring the castle and it's grounds, it's time to go underground and a tour around 'Hellfire corner'. This network of second world war tunnells runs deep into the cliffs and was the operational base of Winston Churchill. It served as the command centre for major operations such as the evacuation of Dunkirk in 1940. The tunnels have been wonderfully recreated to give you a feel of what life would have been like living underground for weeks at a time. For more information visit Dover Castle

Deal Time Ball Museum
In the days of sailing ships, mariners depended on the visual signal given by the tower on Deal seafront to give them the correct time. This enabled them to set navigational instruments accurately and the time mechanism still functions daily at 1300. Today the Time Ball Tower houses an interesting museum on the theme of communications and telegraphy.
